PHILOSOPHY

“Those with a beautiful soul can create beauty...”

The meaning of Babel in our context is to reach the divine, to reach the top. We are constantly pushing our bounderies in order to achieve this gastronomic height. Babel Budapest also embraces an ingredient-focused philosophy therefore the entire team is always striving to source and use the best available ingredients of the region.

At the same time, our Executive Chef, Kornel Kaszas and his team have international experience spanning across the globe, which can also be seen in many of our dishes.

The thoughts and traditions of this multinational kitchen team -hungarian, ukranian, serbian- contribute to our Cuisine to be Central European and all this will be combined with the refined, scandivanian vision of our swedish consultant Chef,Daniel Berlin, who used to help our work at the beginning.

THE MICHELIN STAR

The Restaurant first opened its door in 2008 and it has been in operation ever since with minor interruptions. In 2019, our dedication and tremendous amount of hard work were rewarded with a Michelin Star, for what we have been working tirelessly for over a decade.

Since then, We managed to retain this coveted accolade every year.

"The principle of balance"

In 2017, Babel Budapest was named the best international restaurant by The Decanter magazine, highlighting our bold and unique wine pairing concept that is based on the outstandingly and undoubtedly great balance between food and white wines as well as champagnes.

The concept of the balance-based pairing was developed by Peter Blazsovszky, our former Executive Head Sommelier in close cooperation with the Chefs. János István Fogarasi-Frank, the current Head Sommelier of Babel Budapest still uses the very same principles regarding our wine pairing that features only and exclusively hungarian white and sparkling wines.

„He was born for Hospitality, that’s his profession, literally his life. Not only did he dream of and created this place but he is actively involved in the day to day tasks as well. He currently lives in Sweden and manages his operations from there with the help of expert managers. Hubert’s attitude is the joy of life itself, from which he gives abundantly and does not keep it to himself only. He helps the ones in need as a true philanthropist. It’s good to dine with him, it’s good to be with him.”

KORNÉL KASZÁS

Kornel Kaszas joined the team at Babel Budapest during the Pandemic in 2021 as Executive Chef and reopened the Restaurant with an entirely new team as well as the support of Daniel Berlin in february of 2022. At the very same year they recieved a Michelin star which was managed to be retained in 2023 as well.

Kornel’s philosophy is the following: „Respect the ingredient, the dish and the person who it is served to”

THE BABEL FAMILY

The Babel team is a close-knit family and We strongly believe in the importance of people’s characteristic, therefore it has a great significance next to hospitality and professional knowledge when it comes to recruitment.

We are determined to become the best possible workplace in the industry where people can flourish professionally as well as are able to have a great work-life balance.

In order to achieve this, We introduced some changes that are unprecedented in the world of fine dining. We work normal hours and every member of the team can have morning and evening off or even a whole weekend as there are no exploitative and burn-out shifts in the Restaurant. In return, We expect the most from our colleauges whilst on duty because at the end of the day we are all here to create an unforgotable experience for our Customers.

HISTORY AND ART

Babel Budapest was founded by Hlatky-Schlichter Hubert and he is still the owner of the restaurant to this day. The Establishment moved to its current location in 2015, to the building of the late Piarist High School on the historic Március 15. Square, right next to the oldest Church in the city center. He also opened another iconic Restaurant called Kiosk Budapest in the very same building, which can be seen through the wall from inside Babel.

As the building was originally designed to be a School with spacious interior places, it allowed us to install one of the largest and most well-equipped kitchen in Budapest. Inside the walls that have been preserved in their original condition and still showing signs of the great flood that took place in 1838, you can find an atmosphere that is timelessly elegant yet relaxed. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful Restaurant in Hungary.

There was many hungarian artists involved in the designing of Babel Budapest as we always emphasize the supporting of hungarian traditions and core values. The letter B in the word ’Babel’ that can be seen at the entrance is the work of the world famous Samuel Havadtoy and it showcases his very own and unique lace-making teqnique.

The Crockery was created by a Russian-Hungarian ceramic artist called Ksenia Wallenstein in close collaboratin with Hubert and Daniel and it was specifically designed to compliment the actual menu. The Crystals that we use in the Restaurant during service are all made exclusively for Babel Budapest at the Ajka Kristály manufactory and there can also be seen a temporary exhibition of beautifully designed and handmade glassware on our bookshelves.

Szilveszter a Babel Budapestben


A vacsora

Az idén 15 éves Babel Budapest 15 felvonásos menüvel készül vendégeinek, hogy méltóképpen búcsúztassuk el az évet. A szilveszteri vacsoraasztalok foglalását megnyitottuk, várjuk Önöket szeretettel december 31-én is.

A menüsort lentebb tekinthetik meg. Séfjeink természetesen vegetáriánus, vegán, glutén- és/vagy laktózmentes, illetve pescatáriánus változatokban is el tudják készíteni a fogásokat, amennyiben azt előre jelzik felénk.

A vacsora mellé bor- és pezsgőpárosítást szervírozunk, amely kérés esetén juice párokkal helyettesíthetőek.
A menü ára személyenként 189.000 Ft + 17,5 % szervízdíj, amely magába foglalja az italpárosítást is.
A vacsora végén vendégeinknek belépőt biztosítunk a KIOSK Budapest szilveszteri partyjára!

Foglalási és lemondási feltételek: az asztalfoglalásukat a menü árának egy összegben történő kiegyenlítését követően véglegesíti rendszerünk. Az asztalok december 17-ig módosíthatóak illetve lemondhatóak ezt követően csak átruházhatóak de nem visszatéríthetőek.

Önök kérték, ezért közkívánatra megnyitjuk a szilveszteri asztalainkat ebédre is. Ha szeretné aznap már korábban elkezdeni az óév búcsúztatását, akkor szeretettel várjuk a Babel Budapestben.

A menüsort lentebb tekinthetik meg. Séfjeink természetesen vegetáriánus, vegán, glutén- és/vagy laktózmentes, illetve pescatáriánus változatokban is el tudják készíteni a fogásokat, amennyiben azt előre jelzik felénk.

Az ebéd mellé bor- és italpárosítást is választhatnak, amely kérés esetén juice párokkal helyettesíthetőek, ezek áráról lentebb tájékozódhatnak. A menü ára személyenként 55.000 Ft + 17,5 % szervízdíj.

Foglalási és lemondási feltételek: Abban az esetben, ha a foglalás teljes mértékben vagy részben nem teljesül, ideértve az előre megadott vacsoravendégek számának csökkenését, vagy ha kevesebb mint 24 órával a foglalás előtt mondják le az asztalt, a menü árának megfelelő lemondási díjat érvényesítünk a kifizetett menü árából. Kérjük, vegye figyelembe, hogy ez méltányosan minden lemondásra vonatkozik.
